A community-sponsored, volunteer emergency medical service that has served the community since 1970. The Shark River Hills First Aid Squad is made up of a few dozen hard-working, dedicated community members who want to do their part in the community.

We are business people, parents, housewives, medical professionals, secretaries, students, tradesmen and women. We are your friends and neighbors.

Our primary goal is to provide exceptional emergency medical care to the residents of and visitors to Shark River Hills and the rest of Neptune Township whenever and wherever the need arises.

We also strive to make our community a better place to live. For many years, we have sponsored the “Halloween Safe House” for the children of the area in October. We have visited Township schools to provide safety information and education to our children. We regularly provide coverage to local events such as Neptune Day, soccer tournaments, marathons, 5K runs, football games, and much more. We have proudly responded to medical emergencies as well as state and national disasters throughout the metropolitan area over the years.

There are other benefits to working on the squad. We look after our members. Below are some of the ways we help our team and say thank you to our volunteers.

Each summer, squad members receive free admission to the County Fair from the Board Of Freeholders.
Neptune Township participates in the LOSAP (Length of Service Awards Program) where members of the volunteer squad earn retirement credits based on their level of participation. This money is held in a retirement account that is invested based on your direction, and is payable to you upon retirement age.
Neptune Township has an ordinance in place that exempts members of the volunteer organizations from paying many municipal fees, like building, electrical and garage sale permits.
$600.00 per semester Tuition credit at local Community Colleges.

Member Information

A little information about joining the Shark River Hills First Aid Squad

The membership of the Shark River Hills First Aid Squad, Inc., have been providing emergency medical services to our community since April of 1970. Prior to that time, our Charter Members were providing these same services to our community as a division of the Hamilton First Aid Squad which was founded in 1949. Throughout this time, the primary goal of our agency has been to provide the highest quality care to our patients, who are usually our neighbors, friends, and family.

The Shark River Hills First Aid Squad is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization separate from the Township of Neptune. Donations from residents and businesses, along with the generous support of Neptune Township Municipal Government and the Neptune Township Fire District #1 allow us to meet the ever growing cost of providing quality emergency medical services.

However, the greatest need of our organization, just like any other community organization, is people. No experience is necessary to volunteer. The Squad will provide your training, from your initial Emergency Medical Technician certification to advanced certifications that allow us to meet the most recent trends in pre-hospital emergency care. membership requirements are simple, you must be age 16 or older, in good physical health, have a clean background, and be interested in helping others. The Squad provides all of the training, uniforms, and insurance.

Our squad has an impressive history for an agency that comes from a small community within Neptune Township. Due to our specialized training and our participation in the New Jersey Emergency Medical Services Task Force, and support of the Monmouth County Office of Emergency Management, our squad is one of the first to be called upon for large scale emergencies. Our squad operated at Ground Zero after the attacks on the World Trade Center, we responded to the large oil tank fires in Middlesex County, we have provided assistance to FDNY-EMS during severe storms, we responded to evacuate people from Atlantic County and Cape May County prior to Super Storm Sandy, we responded to the floods in Manville and Bound Brook after Hurricane Floyd and Hurricane Irene, we supported the Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) that was deployed to our area for Super Storm Sandy, we responded to the plane crash on the Hudson River, and major fires throughout Monmouth County. Of course, our primary mission and the one that keeps us most busy is providing day to day response to medical emergencies, fires, car crashes and more throughout Neptune Township and our neighboring communities.

Joining our squad can be a critical life experience. We have found that the great majority of our members leverage their training and commitment into advanced education and careers. Our squad has spawned nurses, educators, government leaders, paramedics, physicians assistants, doctors, firefighters, police officers, federal agents, public employees, small business owners, corporate executives and so much more.
